Iran, Russia Start Talks on Sukhoi 30

TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran and Moscow started talks on the supply of the Russian-made Sukhoi 30 fighter jets to Iran.
The talks were held on Tuesday on the sidelines of the MAKS 2015 air show in the town of Zhukovsky near Moscow during which Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari were present.

"Today, we visited different parts of the exhibition and the fighter jets' air show for three and a half hours accompanied by Mr. Putin which was a rare opportunity," Sattari told FNA yesterday.

"Putin showed that he is well aware of the military issues, knows the companies and products and spends time to get more familiar with them," he added.

Asked if the issue of purchasing Russia's Shkhoi 30 was raised during the visit, Sattari said, "We spoke about it but we didn’t discuss purchasing them and talks were mostly focused on the technological issues."

"You should ask issues related to purchasing (Sukhoi 30) from the defense ministry, and other groups like the trade teams should pursue the issue," he added.

The Sukhoi Su-30 is a twin-engine, two-seat supermaneuverable fighter aircraft developed by Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation.

It is a multirole fighter for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface deep interdiction missions.

Iran, Russia to Join Hands to Build Fighter Jets

Iran and Russia will cooperate in the “joint designing and manufacturing” of combat aircraft, the Islamic Republic’s defense minister announced on Saturday.

Briefing reporters in Tehran, Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan said Russia had agreed to cooperate with Iran after learning about the Islamic Republic’s capabilities, Tasnim news agency reported.

“In the field of (manufacturing) fighter jets, we will not develop such cooperation with any country other than Russia,” General Dehghan emphasized.

The minister said Tehran has military ties with 35 countries including China, Iraq, Russia, Oman, India, Pakistan and Belarus, in different fields, such as technical expertise and engineering, maintenance, and the sale of military systems and weapons.

He further touched on Iran’s progress in the aviation industry, saying Tehran has plans to sell a range of homegrown Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to foreign customers.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems, the agency reported.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military power poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

Russia - Iran Military Cooperation - Page 2 Empty Lawsuit against delivery of S-300

    Post  Ramos 2 Sat Aug 29, 2015 2:16 pm

Good faith should first come from Russia : That's Russia that cancelled the S-300 contract with Iran. It's understandable that Iran wait for the delivery of the "Putin's S-300" before stoping the lawsuit. Remember the fuss Russia made with the non delivery of the Mistrals ! If the lawsuit is first canceled, a little "pressure" from Israel or the US and Iran could wait another 5 to 10 years before getting them.

It seems it is going in the way I was thinking about. I hope Iranians will be smart enough to go for Su-30MK2 from KnAAPO as Irkut is busy with producing Su-30SM for RuAF and RuNAVY. KnAAPO will this year finish the order from Vietnam, so next year production line for Su-30MK2 will be free and could immediately start producing fighters for Iran. Russia will not have a problem with ToT for Su-30MK2 to Iran, what could not be true for more complex Su-30 from Irkut. KnAAPO could quickly deliver a regiment or two and in that time Iran could prepare production line to start production in Iran. I wonder, how many will Iran order, but they will need from 100 to 120 Su-30.

Iran not only to buy military aircraft and military equipment, but the Navy is interested in the production of this type of equipment.

On Friday, a military source - diplomatic this report.
The source in the exhibition "Max -2015" he said, "Iran is currently in talks about buying the fighter Su-30 and Yak-130 and also learning some advanced chat surface ships of class" corvette "and submarines do".

According to the source, the Iranian military and technical cooperation with Russia will be not only the buyer but also the joint development and production of this type of weapons allowed in their territory is concerned. "

Talks on cooperation in the field of aircraft within the framework of the exhibition "Max -2015" took place.

It looks like Iran is negotiating to buy Su-30 and Yak-130 and also some ships and submarines. I wonder which ship is in the game, most probably Gepard class like for Vietnam, This is export class.

Wow the news just keeps on coming

First we hear about the S-300 contract restarting, then 2 weeks ago -Iranian interest in the Il-476, and now before the end of the month; Su-30s, Sukhoi Superjets and now Yak-130s, corvettes and submarines.

I actually thought that the Yak-130 would be the last one they'd buy. It's basically in the same class as their current crop of domestic fighter jets.

Actually Iran is in a big need for modern trainer jets. They need Yak-130 trainer between PC-7 and Su-30. They have some F-5B modified to trainers, but they are not on the level to train for new generation fighter jets, only for existing F-4, F-5 and F-14.

Don't be fooled by the F-5s... even modifications now don't make them modern lead in fighter trainers.

The Yak-130 is a very sophisticated jet trainer with a flight control system that can simulate a range of aircraft types from heavy transports and bombers through to 4+ and 5 gen fighters.

One upgrade option for the F-5s of course would be an upgraded 9 ton thrust RD-33 engine in place of the two old american engines.

Another important aspect of the Flanker purchase would be what missiles to buy with it... reportedly the 200km range RVV-BD AAMs (R-37M) are available for export (the domestic missiles have a range of 300km), and that really would be a useful plane for Iran... pretty much the flight performance of an upgraded F-15 with the missile range well beyond the F-14... a real step up for them and much better able to defend their air space.

"Russia hopes to expand military and technical cooperation with Iran considerably after all restrictions on arms sales to the Islamic Republic are lifted, Russian presidential aide for military and technical cooperation Vladimir Kozhin said on Monday. Russia and Iran may sign contracts worth billions of US dollars, he said in an interview with Izvestiya newspaper. "When all restrictions and all sanctions are lifted, I think we will progress quite considerably in the sphere of military and technical cooperation. It is partially developing for products uncovered by sanctions and we hope for very big projects in future," Kozhin said. "The interest of Iran is great. They need to upgrade virtually all their armed services and branches seriously in all areas. All Iranian armed forces require modernization. Big contracts worth billions of US dollars will be signed, taking into account that this is a large country with numerous armed forces," the Russian presidential aide said.

As Kozhin said earlier, Russia is starting to deliver S-300 (NATO reporting name: SA-10 Grumble) air defense missile systems to Iran under the contract, which was suspended following sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council. A new contract for the delivery of S-300 systems to Iran came into effect in early November. The contract was signed after Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban in the spring of 2015 on the delivery of S-300 systems to Teheran. It was reported earlier that Iran would receive the S-300PMU-2 version of the S-300 air defense missile system.

    Russia - Iran Military Cooperation - Page 2 Russia_and_Iran_start_talks_on_Tor_M1_air_defense_missile_system_modernizatio_640_001

According to Kozhin, Iran is interested in all Russian-made military hardware along with S-300 air defense missile systems. Russia was the biggest supplier of military hardware and equipment to Iran in 1992-2014. In 1992-2014, Russia delivered military hardware and equipment worth $3.469 billion to Iran, which made up 45% of the Iranian arms imports in that period. Iran both purchased Russian-made military hardware and produced it under the Russian license. In 1992-2014, Iran manufactured 300 T-72S1 main battle tanks, 331 BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, 4,450 9M14M Malyutka-M anti-tank missiles, 4,950 9M111 Fagot anti-tank missiles for BMP-2 vehicles, 2,800 9M113 Konkurs anti-tank missiles and 100 D-30 guns under the Russian license. Russia delivered 122 T-72S1 main battle tanks, 82 BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles, 3 Project 877E diesel-electric submarines, 304 V-46 diesel engines and 2 battalions of 2K12 Kvadrat air defense missile systems with 120 3M9 surface-to-air missiles to Iran.

Iran also received 42 Mil Mi-171Sh (Hip) multipurpose helicopters, 5 search and rescue versions of the Mi-8MT/Mi-17 (Hip) multipurpose helicopters, 500 9M114 Shturm anti-tank missiles, 130 fighting cabins for BMP-2 vehicles and 6 Sukhoi Su-25T (Frogfoot) attack aircraft, including 3 Su-25UBK aircraft with 40 R-60 air-to-air missiles from Russia. In 1992-2014, Russia also delivered 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems with 750 9M338 surface-to-air missiles, 2 1L119 Nebo search radars, 2 Kasta-2E2 search radars and 2 1L222 Avtobaza electronic reconnaissance and jamming systems to Iran."

Knowing Iran they might just go with Shtora. APS is expencive and they might first want to replace their obsolete tank fleet asap. And get APS and other addons later.

Probably some components will still be made in Russia to keep them secret but Iranian assembly should benefit both countries.

Wonder what APS they will go for... ARENA 2?  Shtora-2? Nakidka 2?

Knowing Iran they might just go with Shtora. APS is expencive and they might first want to replace their obsolete tank fleet asap. And get APS and other addons later.

Same idea here, what they want is to get out of the Revolutionary War and fast. What they do also want is also a better engine and of course the Thermal Imagers. The one thing they might help validate is the proximity radars for an APS, you can fit some of that into a T72S and let them get hits to see how it reacts. In a sense the moment PR's are solid, the ATGM threat is severly hampered.
