Prefer you post it as a link and with a short description... including any warnings if necessary.

The link button is next to the button for hosting a youtube video.

It's hard to notice an incoming message .

Will be pretty good to add a notification pop up for the messages using a different color.  .

Idk if you know it but you have private messages near the button log out, top right bellow the RDF image on the top. Maybe someone messaged you in private so you got a notification.

Sorry, meant to post earlier. Turned out to be a notification that a subject I was interested in had a new post. The thread was old as was my having clicked the box on it. Thanks for checking in.

By the way Garry, that blue looks strange. Going to take some getting used to thumbsup

    Restricted in what way?

Click on your username and choose view the profile.

At the bottom of the screen there should be a link to edit your profile.

If you scroll down you should see lots of different options for various things and if you scroll right down there is the option to send private messages which is probably set to no.

Change it to yes and that should solve the problem...

Obviously let me know if it does not... Smile

The message I get when I try to PM is:

Sorry, but the administrator has prevented you from sending private messages.

In the profile, preferences I don't see any option restricting my own PMs, those from other users are allowed and only the mass PMs are set to no.

Maybe you can check whether some restriction is applied to my profile at the admin level?

    Thanks!

I have troubles with the search function: I tried to search for all posts of high-knowledge user Mindstorm but I only get 400 posts instead of his 920 or so total posts.

Is there a way to avoid searching in each topic he has written something?

I tried to restrict the search for subforums but it does not catch all his posts.

I have questioned by PM both GarryB and Vladimir79 in 2018, with the exactly same request all post from Mindstorm, GarryB told me to talk to Vladimir79, Vladimir79 said"That seems to be the max number of search results it will return."

I hope there's no problem telling what they told me by PM, I think it's harmless...  Cool
Good luck and If you get a way to see all post share Very Happy

Find one post from Mindstorm and then click on his user name for that post and it will drop down a list of options... the bottom option should be see all posts (from this user)... if you click on that it should show all his posts.

For each post there will be a link to the thread it came from to get context...

I don't think much of the search function either, but AFAIK there are not alternatives.

In theory it is a basic search engine like Google or Yandex, so you should be able to put in code to search this site only, but it is still not easy or effective to use.

Unfortunately it only finds around 400 of 970 of his posts. I read all 400 until I realized that I have missed 570.

One solution is to search subforums for threads in which he posted and search each page. But that takes much click time.
Google search is unfortunately also not useful for this task.

Just tried doing in on my username and it came up with 385 posts so it must be memory size related... I often have some rather long posts... Embarassed

I have not looked into it but I suspect very old posts are purged and are not archived.

After all I should have about 25 thousand posts on here and it only has 385...

You can try this to find all of Mindstorm's posts, though it isn't perfect...using the advanced search you can also add numbers to the search criteria to try to only catch posts from a specific year.

I have noticed that it is now impossible to post new messages of any kind when using Yandex.

    Any speculation as to why?

When you say using Yandex what do you mean?

My understanding is that Yandex is an alternative search engine to Google and I don't understand why you would try to use either to post new messages.

I generally use Yandex through the Yandex program similar to how people use google through a google program.

Right now I have to log in through the computer's default web browser in order to post on this forum.

Yandex and Google are webpage based search engines, if you are using either then you would be using them on a browser.

I use Firefox, but I use Yandex as my default search engine.

But Firefox is the platform I use to view the russiadefence.net website.

This forum is web based so having to log on to a web browser to access this forum is normal.
